Career Pathways and Local Labor Market Trend

Our guest coming from Atlanta is Dr. Joesph Tadlock, who serves as Director of Research and Accountability for the Southern Regional Education Board. This day is truly designed for school teams to work together. We will take a deep dive into the SREB’s career pathways and will learn to look at our local labor market data to make decisions for locally developed pathways. Effective career pathways align elementary, secondary, postsecondary and work-based education and training to increase skill attainment for students and adult learners to meet regional workforce needs that support thriving economies. Districts that leverage Business Advisory Councils – collaborative partnerships between district and school leaders, business representatives and policymakers – and local labor market data are better able to align educational opportunities with local economic needs.
Labor market data describes workforce and economic conditions such as employment and unemployment trends, wages, skills, education and demographics. This data is essential to identifying 3H careers (high wage, high skill, high demand). This session will allow local district teams and advisory councils to explore the power of their comprehensive, local labor market data in relation to their existing or planned career pathway offerings. SREB representatives – Joe Tadlock, Director, Research and Accountability and Allyson Morgan, Director, State and District Partnerships - will demonstrate how educators can use labor market data to develop in-demand career pathway options by comparing salaries and benefits, identifying skills gaps, training needs, and anticipating future changes and challenges
