Maya Collins was an adorable, sassy, spunky little girl who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2011. Maya endured so much in her short 14-year life. Rounds and rounds of chemo, surgeries, biopsies, scans, blood and platelet transfusions, 3 bone marrow transplants and more... the list goes on and on... throughout the 6 1/2 years that she battled her dreaded disease. She passed away after her 3rd transplant at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in 2017. Ironically she was cancer free when she died, but the harsh treatments that she had endured throughout the course of her life took their toll and she died of lung failure in the end.
The Live Like Maya Foundation is committed to funding pediatric cancer research, providing financial assistance to families of children battling cancer and continuing Maya's legacy of fostering kindness and goodwill within the community.
Some of the organizations that we support include the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
In the spirit of Maya's Pay it Forward Movement, the foundation also provides college scholarships to students in the community who have displayed exemplary life skills such as community service, overcoming obstacles, leadership activities, and family commitment to name a few.
