SUMMARY:HOME Fair Housing Disability Rights Summit
DESCRIPTION:Update: Registration has now closed for the Summit. If you would like to be added to our wait list please send an email to HOMESummit2018@gmail.com and we will keep you posted about possible open slots. Thank you!\n\n\n\nHousing Opportunities Made Equal (HOME) is pleased to offer the Fair Housing Disability Rights Summit on Thursday\, November 1\, 2018 and Friday\, November 2\, 2018 (1/2 day) at the Cintas Center at Xavier University.\n\n\n\nSince 2010\, housing discrimination against people with disabilities has been the #1 fair housing complaint locally and nationally\, with more than half of all fair housing complaints involving this protected class.\n\n\n\nThe Summit is open to providers\, advocates\, case managers\, developers as well as housing consumers (for example\, family members of people with disabilities\, people with disabilities\, service providers). Local Elected and Government Officials have been invited to participate.\n\n\n\nThe draft of the agenda is included below. The Community Building Institute (CBI) at Xavier University will be hosting Local Accessibility Focus Groups on both days at the conclusion of the Summit Sessions. More information to follow.\n\n\n\nThe Summit is free to attend however\, we ask that no more than 5 people from the same Organization/Company register so we may share this information with as many people as possible.\n\n\n\nRegistration will be capped at 150 people. You may register for one day or both.\n\n\n\nThere is no penalty for cancellation before the cancellation deadline\, which is Wednesday\, October 24\, 2018 at 11pm. Email HOMESummit2018@gmail.com to cancel your registration.\n\n\n\nBecause HOME's programs are offered free or at a heavily subsidized rate\, a valuable community resource is lost if participants register but do not attend. If a participant from an Organization/Company has registered for an event\, fails to cancel by the deadline and does not attend or provide a substitute attendee\, the participant's Organization/Company may be charged a cancellation fee of $25.00.\n\n\n\nContinuing Education Credit will be offered for Social Workers who request them in advance on their registration form. The total credit amount is pending.\n\n\n\nHOME will make arrangements to accommodate all special need requests. If you would like to discuss something in greater detail than what the registration form allows please email HOMESummit2018@gmail.com.\n\n\n\nDRAFT OF AGENDA AS OF 9/24/18\n\n\n\nDay #1 Focus: Learning\n\nThursday\, November 1\, 2018 8:30am-3:00pm\n\nCINTAS/Schiff Family Conference Center Banquet Room\n\n\n\n\n\nTime Activity\n\n\n\n8:30-9:00am Registration/Breakfast\n\n\n\n9:00-9:30am Opening/Welcome/Overview Purpose of Event\n\n\n\n9:30-10:45am FHA at 50/Fair Housing 101:\n\nPresenters:\n\nDeb Jetter\, HOME\n\nLaTonya Springs\, HOME\n\n \n\n	Disability #1 FHA complaint\n	RA/RM request\n	Assistance/Service/ ESA\n\n\n\n11:00am-12:30pm Inclusive Communities & Universal Accessibility\n\n(Panel Discussion followed by Round Table)\n\nPanel:\n\nStephanie Moes\, Esq.\, Legal Aid\n\nStephanie Sunderland\, NEST\n\nErnie Barbeau\, Kennedy Heights\n\n12:30-1:30pm Networking/Lunch/Access to Agency Information\n\n\n\n1:30-2:45pm "Families' Journeys Toward Inclusive Housing: Barriers and Opportunities"\n\nPanel:\n\nDawn Freudenberg\, Facilitator\, Hamilton County DDS\n\n\n\nJohn Romer\, Hamilton County DDS\n\n\n\nDiana Mairose\, Hamilton County DDS\n\n\n\nCindy Molloy\, Parent Advocate\n\n\n\nJon Lawniczak\, Chief Advocacy Officer for Aging and Accessibility/City of Cincinnati\n\n\n\n \n* History of housing for people with disabilities\n\n* What inclusive housing means to us\n\n* Barriers and disincentives\n\n* A model for inclusive housing\n* Questions and reflections\n\n\n\n2:45-3:00pm Overview of Day 2/Eval/ and Adjourn\n\n\n\n3:00-4:00pm Local Accessibility Focus Group (CBI)\n\n\n\nDay 2: Policy & Advocacy\n\nFriday\, November 2\, 2018 8:30am-12:45pm\n\nCINTAS/Schiff Family Conference Center Banquet Room\n\n\n\nTime Activity\n\n\n8:30-9:00pm Registration/Breakfast\n\n\n\n9:00-9:30am Opening/Day 1 Recap/Overview\n\n\n\n9:30-11:00am Protecting Your Rights Roundtables\n\nFacilitators:\n\nKat Lyons\, CILO\n\nDebbie Greenebaum\, Hamilton County DDS\n\nJeniece Jones\, HOME\n\n \n\n	Top Issues\n	Resources\n	Advocacy/ Direct Action\n\n\n\n11:00-11:30am Break w/ snacks from CBI\n\n\n\n11:30am-12:30pm Creating a Policy Action agenda Roundtable/ Q&A\n\nFacilitator: Heather Sturgill\, JOVIS: Addressing barriers to community living & Disability Rights Advocate\n\n\n	Personal Action Pledge\n\n12:30-12:45pm Closing thoughts/Eval/Adjourn\n\n\n\n1:00-2:00pm Local Accessibility Focus Group (CBI)
